IS the Government finally listening? I could barely believe it when I read reports yesterday of a new campaign being launched to encourage people to seek medical help for conditions other than Coronavirus.

They are calling it “Help Us To Help You” which I think is more effective than “Hands, Face, Space” and will certainly save more cancer patients than “Stay Home, Save Lives, Protect The NHS”.

This is genuinely good news and I am delighted. Yes, it has come months too late, but I understand how these Government PR campaigns work.

It has to go through rigorous focus groups and brainstorms with fast talking, bright, young PR gurus before anything can actually get decided.

Time is not on our side with this, but progress is progress and I applaud it. I’m interested to see what it will actually entail. We’ve all seen and heard the scary coronavirus advertisements absolutely everywhere at huge cost to the taxpayer. If you do decide to venture into a town centre it’s all you will see on billboards and bus stops.

Let’s give this campaign the same financial support that the others have received. Apparently, various celebrities are getting involved which is to be expected. Will it make any difference? Who knows, but any extra exposure is a good thing.

The issue we’ve got is the people we mainly need it to reach are the ones who are already too scared to leave the house. Older people who genuinely fear for their lives if they go anywhere near a hospital. Getting to them is crucial.

But this is a massive step in the right direction. It does seem that the politicians are listening and acting.

So in my view, excellent news.
