Italy falls off the safe list

- By Michael Knowles

ITALY became the latest country yesterday to be added to Britain’s quarantine list.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed travellers arriving from Italy, San Marino and Vatican City must selfisolate for 14 days.

The move was announced after the country recorded its biggest single- day jump in infections since the start of the outbreak, adding another 8,804 cases.

A dip in cases means quarantinefree travel to the Greek island of Crete will resume.

Mr Shapps ruled out Covid testing on arrival at UK airports and ports.

To get people flying again, he said: “We’re proposing a domestic test regime, where people land and wait a week, have a test and get early release.”
