Store shuts cafes

WAITROSE is to close its supermarket cafes for a month from December 13 to keep a lid on customers.

It wants to give shoppers priority over those who simply go for coffee and cake.

A spokesman told The Grocer it wanted to “concentrate on customers who wish to complete their Christmas shopping when pressure will be greatest”.

Rivals said cafes would remain open depending on future restrictions.
