Outcast Ozil told to prove Arteta wrong

- By Tony Banks

MIKEL ARTETA has told Mesut Ozil he has two months to prove himself at Arsenal.

Ozil, below, has not been named in the side since March. But Arteta is still expecting Ozil, whose contract expires in the summer, to battle for a place.

The Gunners boss, whose side are at Manchester City tomorrow, left both Ozil and Sokratis out of his 25- man Europa League squad last week and said: “I explained the reasons to them face to face.

“It was really difficult but this is the restriction.

They have to respect that decision and try to train the best possible way, help the team when they can. Then we see what happens in December. “To leave players out at that level, when they can no longer be involved, is tough. But we have an excess of foreign players. It’s down to us to find ways to motivate them and down to them to react.” Arteta hopes Kieran Tierney will be allowed out of quarantine to play at the Etihad.

“I will be extremely disappointed if not,” he said.
