More black patients die

MEN of black African, black Caribbean and Bangladesh­i ethnic background have had “significan­tly higher” rates of death involving Covid- 19.

Rates exceeded 250 deaths per 100,000 people in England and Wales, the Office for National Statistics said. Males from white ethnic background­s had the lowest rate of deaths at 106.8 per 100,000.

The figures, adjusted for aged, are based on deaths from March 2 to July 28.

Overall, white women suffered the lowest Covid mortality rate at 65.7 deaths per 100,000. Black Caribbean women saw nearly twice the death rate ( 128.8 per 100,000) and were also “significan­tly higher” than women of Indian, mixed and Chinese background­s.
