More black patients die
MEN of black African, black Caribbean and Bangladeshi ethnic background have had “significantly higher” rates of death involving Covid- 19.
Rates exceeded 250 deaths per 100,000 people in England and Wales, the Office for National Statistics said. Males from white ethnic backgrounds had the lowest rate of deaths at 106.8 per 100,000.
The figures, adjusted for aged, are based on deaths from March 2 to July 28.
Overall, white women suffered the lowest Covid mortality rate at 65.7 deaths per 100,000. Black Caribbean women saw nearly twice the death rate ( 128.8 per 100,000) and were also “significantly higher” than women of Indian, mixed and Chinese backgrounds.
