A window of opportunity to see mum

- By News Reporter

RESIDENTS at a care home are rejoicing after a specially built lodge with a protective screen allowed them to see their loved ones – despite Covid- 19 restrictions.

Government guidelines in Greater Manchester mean care home visits are limited to “exceptional circumstances”.

However, the “split” design of the lodge at Worthington Lake Care Home in Wigan, means residents and their family members can meet face- to- face.

A pane of glass divides the room, allowing those inside to see each other without breathing the same air.

They communicate via microphones and speakers.

Touching photos taken this week show dementia sufferer Joan Kershaw, 88, and her daughter Vivien Stevenson beaming at one another.

Vivien said: “I think lodge is a fantastic idea.

“The important thing is that it means I can see my mum which, under present restrictions, I wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.”
