Who me? Doctor David on his unlikely marriage
DAVID Tennant and wife Georgia have admitted they are an unlikely couple and only got together because she “worked hard” to woo him.
The pair, who have five children, also told how their youngest, Birdie, almost died just weeks after being born but was saved by the NHS.
David said it felt a bit “stupid” to be marrying the daughter of a fellow Doctor Who actor. The star, 49, who played the tenth Doctor, wed Georgia – who is the daughter of fifth Doctor Peter Davison – in 2011 after they met in 2008.
Georgia, 35, said: “I very much forced it. I was messaging you 400 times a day. You thought maybe
I was lonely and wanted a chat. I very much fell into stalker category. I thought,
I’ll just persevere until he gives in.”
David said: “I thought we were an unlikely life partnership. There is a bit of an age gap. But now we are both so old.” In June, the pair acted alongside each other in BBC drama Staged, which was filmed in their home during lockdown.
Their fifth child, Birdie, was born last October. In a rare joint interview on That Gaby Roslin Podcast, the pair detailed how she could have died in intensive care shortly after being born. Georgia said: “Our baby was very ill. At the beginning we were like, ‘ she’s fine she just has a bit of a cold it’s not a problem’.
“Then, within 24 hours of that, it was like, ‘ we are not fine’ and within three days we are in intensive care. But because our NHS is amazing, they saved her. “Our baby still shares our bed, that is me wanting to check her breathing is fine. She is very happy, we don’t get any sleep.
“But I haven’t had any sleep for about
18 years.” David said Doctor Who had run through his life like a stick of rock. He met Georgia when she appeared as the Doctor’s daughter in a 2008 episode. He recalled how, aged three, he told his parents he wanted to be Doctor Who. The star said: “I didn’t imagine it was possible. I was in drama school when the last season of the original Doctor Who went out. Who knew it was going to come back?”
