Boy, 6, in £ 17k hike for RAF

- By Emily Chudy

A BOY aged just six has raised £ 17,500 ahead of a two- day walking challenge to mark the Battle of Britain.

Jacob Newson is to walk 30 miles – from RAF Manston in Ramsgate to the Battle of Britain Memorial in Folkestone, Kent, for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

He will finish with dad Andy on October 31, his seventh birthday and the day the iconic campaign ended 80 years ago.

The schoolboy, from Leeds, had intended to walk from Belgium to Dunkirk in northern France but due to Covid this has been postponed until next May.

Andy added: “Only Covid restrictions will stop it now so it’s down to whether West Yorkshire or Kent goes to level three.”
