Mourinho: Real Bale will put us on right track

- DARREN LEWIS

JOSE MOURINHO is licking his lips at the prospect of Gareth Bale bringing his Real Madrid form back to north London.

The Wales star is set to make an appearance – most likely off the bench – in tomorrow’s showdown against in- form West Ham.

Bale lifted 16 trophies, including four Champions League titles, and scored 105 goals in

251 games for Real.

Mourinho has made clear the 31- year- old will be given the chance to pick up where he left off in 2013 by playing in his favoured position – on the right, with Son Heung- Min on the left and Harry Kane through the middle.

The Spurs boss said: “One of the first questions in my first conversation with Gareth was, ‘ What’s your favourite position’. I wanted to start from there and he answered. Does that mean he will always 4.30PM TOMORROW, SKY SPORTS be used there? No. Because he will play where the team needs him. But he was very clear by saying that his favourite position is on the right.

“When he reaches his normal intensity and dynamic, I think he can be the player people saw being decisive when he went to Real, in a very similar position.”

Spurs signed Bale’s Wales teammate Joe Rodon, left, from Swansea in a £ 15million deal yesterday.

The defender had been a target for Spurs for weeks, with Swansea rejecting an opening £ 7m offer.

And West Ham clinched their own last- minute deal, taking Brentford winger Said Benrahma on loan – after pulling the plug on a £ 26m permanent transfer. An obligation to buy was included in the £ 4m loan

agreement.
