‘ My length- of- Britain tractor pilgrimage in memory of pal’

- By Doug Shields

A LORRY driver has honoured the memory of his best mate – by making the 1,000- mile tractor trip they planned together.

Martin Chaplin, 45, was supposed to trundle his rusty old 1966 International the length of Britain with best buddy Kev Crandon.

But Kev, 67, also a lorry driver, died after falling from a trailer in January. So Martin set about planning the 10- day John O’Groats- to- Land’s End trip in his honour.

Martin fought back tears as he posed with his family in Land’s End, clutching a picture of father- of- three Kev.

He said: “I was really emotional when I completed the journey. I was thinking, ‘ we did it mate’.”
