Everyone a champion in ‘ Olympics’

-

SPIRITED OAPs have staged a care home Olympics, complete with a torch relay and medal ceremonies.

More than 50 pensioners took part in the Virtual Senior Games, competing in foam javelin, tin can alley, golf putting and target mat.

While all events took into account the abilities of participants, the competition was intense, with each care home battling for gold, silver and bronze medals over four days. A torch relay was also organised, with the lighting of the flame signalling the start of the games in Swindon.

Six care homes featured: Guinness Care ( Prince Rupert Court), Hurst House, Kings Court, Lansdown Hill, Park View and Ridgeway Rise.

After a keenly- fought contest Guinness Care ( Prince Rupert Court) were the eventual victors. It is hoped the event will be held again next year, but with face- to- face activities and more care homes involved.

A spokesperson for organiser Swindon Sports Forum said: “Some amazing results were seen over the four activities, with every care home recording some incredible scores.

“As well as testing residents’ skills, the games offered a chance to have a bit of fun in these challenging times.”
