You’d butter believe it... Nigella tells us how to make toast!

Backlash as Nigella spreads the word on making toast

- By Claudia Joseph

NIGELLA Lawson whipped up a storm after giving viewers a long lesson in how to butter toast on her TV show.

The second episode of Cook, Eat, Repeat opened with Nigella, 60, sitting in the garden with her “ingredients”.

She explained she has a “two- stage” buttering process, revealing: “Sometimes I just want an oldfashioned sandwich loaf, soft and squidgy like this one.

“It also happens to make the best toast in the world.”

Nigella continued to work up a head of steam over her snack, saying: “The minute this came out of the toaster, , still lovely and hot, I spread it with butter so th the butter has melted into it and will give it a lovely crump crumpety bite. bite.” The BBC Two star went on: “Stage two two, now, ready for it, I need a littl little more butter and it will stay in some golden patches on t the surface.

“It’s unsalted butter, which I always prefer to use. But what I need to do is sprinkle some sea salt flakes over. “This is the platonic ideal of toast.” Twitter immediately lit up with astonishment. One user said: “Twice buttered toast? IS she trying to kill us all?”

A second tweeted: “I’m really glad that @BBCTWO had # Nigella to tell us how to butter toast. “Hopefully next week we’ll find out how to make a @PotNoodle.”

The furore continued yesterday following Monday’s show. One tweeted: “Can I have a hands up from everyone who buttered their toast twice this morning?” Another said: “Was thinking of having toast but not sure of the recipe. Any ideas # Nigella.” Toastgate came after she upset some last week by mixing a traditional Indian bharta curry with mashed fishfingers. Five years ago Nigella showed how to make avocado on toast.
