Eton teacher guilty of sex assaults

- By John Twomey

A FORMER Eton geography teacher has been found guilty of sexually touching pupils during night- time visits to their bedrooms.

Matthew Mowbray, 49, would pretend he was there to discuss schoolwork then touch the boys for “sexual gratification”, Reading Crown Court was told.

A jury took 6 ½ hours to find him guilty of eight counts of sexual activity with a child and not guilty of another count with a girl.

Mowbray, a father, had admitted six counts of making indecent images of children and one of voyeurism.

The court heard he downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children, as well as superimposing pupils’ faces on to the naked bodies of unknown youngsters on his computer.

Presiding judge Heather Norton QC told Mowbray, from Locks Heath, Hants, it was “inevitable” he would be sent to jail when he is sentenced at a date to be set.

Granting him conditional bail, she added: “You should prepare yourself for that.”

Mowbray was expressionless as the verdicts were read out.

Previously the court heard he sent an email to the deputy headmaster at the exclusive school near Windsor after a boy made a complaint.

He wrote: “I will never go back to normal unless this is managed very carefully.”
