£ 254m help for rough sleepers
AN extra quarter of a billion pounds has been plenged by the Government to help tackle rough sleeping.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak is to spend £ 254million, including £ 103million announced earlier this year for accommodation and tackling substance misuse.
The new money will fund the Rough Sleeping Initiative, which helps rebuild lives and supports councils prevent homelessness. Funds will also assist those at risk after release from prison.
The total funding for rough sleeping and homelessness in 2021- 22 will be £ 676million, which the Treasury said is a 60 per cent boost. Some £ 87million will also be spent on housing for rough sleepers.
The Homeless Link charity welcomed the extra cash but said the Spending Review “falls short” in preventing and ending homelessness in all its forms.
