Classroom heroes clash over Chancellor’s £ 250 pay promise

-

A TEACHING assistant who qualifies for the Government’s minimum £ 250 pay rise for public sector workers earning less than £ 24,000 a year has described it as “a slap in the face”.

Donna Spicer, 48, from Greenwich, London, added: “That works out at what, £ 20 a month? That’s not going to fill my car up with petrol. Rishi Sunak might as well just keep it.

“Teaching staff, school support staff, we’ve been on the front line throughout. All this about ‘ schools are closed’... no, they haven’t been, we’ve been looking after key- worker children and vulnerable children throughout. We put our lives on the line every day.”

But John Morrissey, 46, a Year 2 teacher from Coldfall Primary School, London said: “I feel very fortunate to have a secure job and reliable income when so many are facing serious financial hardship. So I’m not going to complain.”
