BBC apology would help absolve me, says Di’s brother
DIANA’S brother Earl Spencer says he will feel “semi- vindicated” if he receives an apology from the BBC over the Panorama interview storm.
The corporation has appointed Lord Dyson, former Master of the Rolls, to lead an investigation into the Diana, Princess of Wales interview which aired in 1995.
Earl Spencer, inset, alleges he was shown false bank statements by Panorama reporter Martin Bashir to help him gain access to the princess.
In the interview, Diana was shockingly candid about her unhappy marriage to Prince Charles. Earl Spencer has told ITV show Lorraine: “This isn’t me saying Diana should or shouldn’t have spoken. What I am saying is that, in my view, the BBC have very, very serious questions to answer on this. “Diana always stood up for me a lot as my elder sister as a kid and I’m very happy to do this for her.
“And… if I can get an apology out of the BBC for everything they did around this then I will feel semi- vindicated.” He also wants Netflix to make it clear its royal drama The Crown, “isn’t true but is based around some real events”, he said.
