England put Adams on road to top, now he’s after them

- By Alex Bywater

JOSH ADAMS is the Wales star made in England ready to battle Red Rose speedster Jonny May.

Adams has 14 tries in 27 Tests but failed to make the cut at the Scarlets early in his career and was released.

He ended up across the Welsh border at Worcester and his red- hot scoring streak for the Warriors helped propel him to Test level.

Adams has not looked back and was top try- scorer at last year’s World Cup with seven. Wales hope he gives them some much- needed impetus when England arrive in Llanelli this weekend.

“I couldn’t say I’d be sitting here if it wasn’t for that exposure,” said the 25- year- old of his time in England. “The Worcester coaching staff were excellent. Sam Vesty was the backs and attack coach. He put a lot of time and effort into me for which I’m very thankful.

“Playing in the Premiership week in, week out and playing against top wingers definitely helped me perform better when I came into the Test arena.”

Last Saturday Wales relieved some of the pressure on head coach Wayne Pivac with an 18- 0 win over Georgia that ended a run of six straight defeats.

But England and May, who scored a stunning breakaway try as part of a brace against Ireland, will be a different challenge.

“It was a fantastic finish. I’ve played against him before so it won’t be anything new to me,” said Adams. “Every winger has their point of difference and Jonny’s is his speed. I’ll do my homework and make sure I get my role right.”
