MOURINHO OPENS UP
Jose’s sneak peek into Spurs
JOSE MOURINHO has ditched his siege mentality and reinvented himself as the Open One after the success of the Amazon Prime documentary.
This week he posted a picture of himself on Instagram presenting Sergio Reguilon with a £ 500 Spanish ham after the 2- 0 win over Manchester City on Saturday.
In the past, Mourinho has kept people away from the inner sanctum of his dressing room.
However, he even posted criticism of his players after the defeat at Royal Antwerp this season – all part of the Tottenham manager’s strategy to show his work as he tries to turn the club from nearlymen into winners.
He said as he prepared to host Covid- stricken Ludogorets tonight: “I just try to open our world to the world. People love the insight, what they don’t see.
“The success of that Amazon series was exactly that everything was open. It’s good fun for people.
“Instagram is an opportunity for little things that don’t hurt anyone and it can be funny.
“Other times it’s not funny at all because you’re upset with a bad result and bad performance. It’s just little things for the people to know our world.
“I posted 10 minutes after the game against Antwerp, which was awful. In the case of this last one, the players want a Spanish ham and it’s quite expensive.
“Who pays? Reguilon has to pay because he’s Spanish. OK, if we win I pay. That’s it.”
The old Mourinho is not gone completely, He could not help but get stuck in after Jurgen Klopp’s complaints about scheduling, saying: “Klopp arrived in 2015, I arrived in 2004. So what he knows from 2015, I know since 2004. Nothing changes. We have to adapt.”
He also maintains the authorities are against him and his clubs, hinting the absence of Harry Kane and Son Heung- Min from the FIFA Best shortlists “has a lot to do with certain clubs’ power in the media.”
