Driver admits killing boy, 12, after ploughing into children
A DRIVER has admitted the manslaughter of a boy of 12 in a hit- and- run crash by a school which injured several children.
Terence Glover, 52, pleaded guilty yesterday to killing Harley Watson along with the attempted murder of nine youngsters and a woman.
Glover also admitted dangerous driving on December 2 last year, but he denied the murder of Harley.
His Ford Ka mowed into a crowd of children outside Debden Park High School in Loughton, Essex.
Glover, who was said to be sleeping in his car outside a pub when he was detained hours later, appeared via videolink at court, from a secure mental health unit.
Harley’s mother Jo Wood attended the plea hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court, east London, and held a tissue and wept as Glover pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
Witness statements and psychiatrists reports were provided by Glover’s defence along with further psychiatric reports from the prosecution. Christine Agnew QC, for the Crown, said: “All psychiatrists are in agreement that he was suffering of an abnormality of mind and he is able to avail himself of the defence of diminished responsibility.
“That has been explained in length to the parents of Harley Watson.”
Glover, of Loughton, was remanded in custody and will appear for sentencing on January 8. Judge Andrew Edis told him: “You are to be brought to the court so you are here physically.”
