We are a world leader again... thanks to Brexit

-

BORIS Johnson was spot on describing yesterday’s announcement that a coronavirus vaccine has been given the all clear in Britain as “a huge moment”.

If by saying “science has performed a sort of “jiu jitsu” he means that researchers have done the unimaginable in getting a vaccine ready so quickly then he is absolutely right.

But it is also a good time to once and for all tell the gloomsters and naysayers to put the proverbial sock in it.

This starts with the European Medical Agency and various other EU bodies who have tried to dismiss this significant moment and suggest it is rushed.

This is not just sour grapes – but is very dangerous talk trying to undermine confidence in a lifesaving vaccine.

We have seen time and again that the EU puts its own ideology and desire for control before people’s lives and best interests.

This ill- judged attack has perhaps come around because just a few months ago Remainers in Britain were telling us we would not have a vaccine without the EU. They seek every opportunity to talk this country down and once again have been proven wrong.

For the record, Britain is the biggest single donor of the Global Vaccine Agency; our government has secured the most doses; and our world leading regulators are the first to clinically approve the Pfizer vaccine.

This is a major global success story for Britain, and the government led by Mr Johnson, and is a direct result of escaping the over regulation of the EU.

It underlines that global Britain post Brexit is not just a country which plays its part, but one which shows international leadership and is at the cutting edge of innovation.
