‘ Homophobic’ peer facing ban

- By Michael Knowles

A PEER accused of making homophobic slurs is facing suspension from the House of Lords for at least 18 months.

Lord Maginnis was found to have used abusive language to security officer Christian Bombolo as he tried to enter Parliament without his pass.

The Lords Conduct Committee ordered the former Ulster Unionist MP and soldier to take “behaviour training” or face a longer ban. But he refused to co- operate, declaring: “So be it.” He denied bullying and harassment and called the report “ridiculous”. He said: “I’ve held responsible positions all my life. At 83 years of age, I’m not going to be dictated to in this way.”

SNP MP Hannah Bardell described the incident as “one of the worst cases of abuse of security staff I have seen”.
