Charity’s fresh food bank

- By Cyril DIxon

A CHARITY has launched a supermarket- style food bank after the pandemic led to a surge in the number of professionals seeking help with financial problems.

Poverty group St Giles Trust allows people to choose items from a high- quality range, including unlimited amounts of fruit and vegetables.

Organisers hope the Pantry will provide “dignity and independence” to family heads who have never used a food bank before.

The scheme was introduced after research revealed 27 per cent of people aged 35- 44 live from payday to payday with nothing to spare. Twenty- six per cent of those aged 25- 34 struggled with finances during the spread of coronavirus.

Nicky Park, of St Giles, said: “Although the pandemic has created more families that need our support, we’ll open our doors and help anyone.” Two sites have opened in London and one in Leeds.
