Trump blasts Fury over snub
JUDD TRUMP has taken a pot shot at BBC Sports Personality rebel Tyson Fury and says he is letting the sport of boxing down.
Snooker is still basking in the glory of seeing Ronnie O’Sullivan make the final six for the prestigious award.
But world heavyweight champion Fury asked to be removed from the shortlist and told his own fans not to vote for him. Trump, right, who reached the UK Championship quarter- finals with a 6- 3 win over Ricky Walden yesterday, said: “It was a strange thing to happen. I think Tyson knew he wasn’t going to win it and has done that to take the pressure off and not lose.
“When you get nominated it is for you but also a bit for your sport. I wouldn’t want to see Ronnie do that and I’m sure he wouldn’t. It is throwing it back in the BBC’s face.
“We are all delighted Ronnie is on the list and he should have been there years ago. He has been neglected – in another sport I reckon he would have won it three times already.
“For me, only Roger Federer has ever made his own sport look so easy.”
