NHS gynaecologist used spy cameras to film sex sessions

- By News Reporter

A ONCE highly- regarded NHS gynaecologist has been struck off after he secretly filmed sexual encounters with cameras hidden in his glasses and a key fob.

Father- of- two Dr Jomo Mathurine, 50, recorded several unsuspecting women, including his 19- year- old girlfriend, who was a student nurse at the time.

Mathurine, an obstetrics and gynaecology consultant, was branded a predator at a disciplinary tribunal after it was heard he made 15 images and 96 videos.

He secretly filmed “extremely graphic” clips of the young nurse, named as “Ms A” at the hearing, at her student accommodation during their two- year relationship.

When she discovered what he had done he threatened to “take down” the junior nurse, who is 26 years younger than him.

She was so distraught she had to return to her native Ireland to

recuperate. Other women also filmed during sex acts.

None were patients at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, Berkshire, as well as private practices where Mathurine worked.

At a Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal in Manchester, Tim Grey, on behalf of the General Medical Council, said Mathurine posed a “danger and risk of repeating his behaviour”. Tribunal chair Simon Bond said: “Mr Grey submitted were that Dr Mathurine had engaged in predatory manipulative actions.

“The tribunal was particularly concerned that until such time as the underlying behavioural and psychological issues highlighted have been addressed, there would always remain a not insignificant risk of repetition.

“Mr Grey submitted that Dr Mathurine’s behaviour had caused serious harm to Ms A and to her career, the psychological impact on her was grave.

“Although Ms A was not a patient of Dr Mathurine’s, she was vulnerable due to the abuse of his position of trust; the power imbalance; the age difference and Dr Mathurine’s threats to her career.

It was also heard that Mathurine made “implausible” suggestions that his motivation was not sexual.

Mathurine, from Milton Keynes, was previously jailed for 14 months at Reading Crown Court and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
