Joy over £ 6bn trade deal with Vietnam
BRITAIN has agreed 57 trade deals worth a staggering £ 193billion since leaving the EU, the International Trade Secretary has revealed.
Trumpeting the latest, a £ 6billion tie- up with Vietnam, Liz Truss said no country had ever secured so many trade agreements so quickly.
It replaces the existing EU- Vietnam Trade Agreement and will ensure Britain does not lose access to preferential tariffs in one of the fastest growing and most open economies in Asia.
The deal follows a £ 17.6billion agreement with Singapore this week in a major boost to the UK’s tech industry.
Ms Truss, who bumped elbows to seal the deal with Vietnam’s trade minister Tran Tuan Anh in Hanoi, said: “We have now agreed deals with 57 countries, covering £ 193 billion of trade. This is unprecedented.”
UK- Vietnam trade has tripled between 2010 and 2019 to £ 5.7billion.
