TROOPS GRANTED ‘ FREEDOM OF LIVERPOOL’
ARMY regiments which helped set up and run a mass coronavirus testing scheme in Liverpool are to be given the Freedom of the City.
About 2,000 troops – led by Brigadier Joe Fossey – were deployed in early November and have helped to carry out more than 200,000 tests at almost 50 centres.
Since then the city’s coronavirus infection rates have fallen from 680 cases per 100,000 to less than 100.
Deputy mayor Wendy Simon, said: “We owe the British Army an incredible debt of gratitude.”
