Clare Sanders, 44, got eight years while Tomas Vaitkevicius, 45, got nine in jail

A FORMER City high- flier and her lover have been jailed over the death of their baby daughter.

Management consultant Clare Sanders, 44, and Tomas Vaitkevicius, 45, were cleared of murder but convicted of causing or allowing the death of four- week- old Eva Sanders in September 2017.

She suffered 27 rib factures and head and spine injuries from three separate assaults, jurors heard.

Her parents, from Mitcham, south London, denied the charges.

At the Old Bailey yesterday, Vaitkevicius, who had convictions for violence, was jailed for nine years. Sanders wept as she was sentenced to eight. Judge Mark Lucraft QC told them drink played a “major part” in what happened.

Previously, the court heard how the couple’s neighbour had raised the alarm in the early hours of September 1, 2017, when she woke up to Sanders screaming and ringing the doorbell.

Eva was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting where she died the next day. Detective Inspector Will White, of Scotland Yard, said: “This is a devastatingly sad case.”
