Old- school Babs’ lessons in how to brighten world

-

BABS Windsor was a cheery force of nature – a platinum blonde pocket Venus whose wiggle and giggle enchanted us all for decades. And now she’s gone – taken by Alzheimer’s, the cruel thief that stole her lifetime of precious memories.

I knew Babs for 30 years and what always struck me was that no matter how rich or famous she was, she never forgot how to connect with ordinary people. She never forgot that her fame and good fortune was down to their continued love and support.

And we did love her. If anyone ever had a bad word to say about Babs Windsor I never heard it. I interviewed her many times over the years and when we bumped into each other in London, she and nd Scott always treated me like a friend.

Even when I lost my job a few years ago, the two of them were straight on the phone asking what they hey could do to help. lp It was a kindness I never forgot because it came at a time I really needed it.

The thing about Babs was that she was “old school”, a trooper in the truest sense of the word. If she had problems – you never knew. If she was down – she never showed it. She had a happy face she always put on for the world because she believed THAT was her job.

Even when the Alzheimer’s had taken much of her mind, she still knew enough to put on that dazzling smile.

And she selflessly used what little time she had left to help raise money for others with this terrible disease because, somehow, even through the fog of Alzheimer’s, she understood that her fame could be used for good.

I don’t often wax lyrical about celebrities but life will seem darker and bleaker and a whole lot less fun without Babs.

For a little lady she leaves a colossal hole in a world that I fear will never see her like again.

RIP Babs!

POSH tins of shortbread biscuits to mark Harry and Meghan’s trip to Royal Ascot and which were being sold in Harrods for £ 16 are now being flogged off at TK Maxx for £ 3.99.

The biscuits’ sell- by date is February 2021, which means the shortbread has lasted a lot longer than Harry and Meghan’s reputation.
