‘ Darling angels’ aged 3 and 7 die in house blaze
AN ELECTRICAL fault in a bedroom is believed to have caused a huge blaze which killed two children.
Sienna Horton, seven, and her three- yearold brother Isaac died in the devastating blaze at around 7am on Thursday.
Their mother Jade Horton, 35, broke both her legs after jumping to safety from a second- floor bedroom.
Police said: “An investigation into the fire has concluded the most probable cause was an electrical fault in a first- floor bedroom. “There are no suspicious circumstances.” A hero neighbour suffered minor injuries trying to get into the burning three- storey house in Eynesbury, Cambridgeshire.
Devastating
The upstairs windows of the modern terraced home were completely burnt- out and the outside blackened.
Neighbour Grace Yeates said Jade, an exprison officer who moved into the property last month, had “no choice but to jump”.
Shocked neighbours left floral tributes to the little victims around a nearby tree.
One message read: “Dear darling angels. Keep holding each other’s hands. You are so loved.”
Around 40 firefighters fought the blaze. Cambridgeshire fire and rescue chief Chris Strickland said: “Crews fought tirelessly to get the fire under control and locate the children, who were still in the house.”
Neighbour Charles Cooper, 30, said: “The flames were coming out of the top
window. It took a good three or four hours before the smoke abated.”
Peter Kellythorn, 40, said: “The heat – it doesn’t bear thinking about. They’re fairly new houses and they’re all fitted with fire alarms and things. It’s just awful.”
Neighbour Angela Russell, who has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the bereaved couple, said: “The mum is at hospital with broken bones after having to jump from the window. The stepdad is also receiving medical help after rushing home to try to save the children.
“This couple have lost their home and the most precious people in their life.”
Another fundraiser wrote: “Absolutely devastating. RIP little angels and strength and love to the rest of the family.”
Police added: “A file into the incident is in the process of being handed to the coroner where police involvement will end.”
