Lampard: It will be really tight at the top this term
CHELSEA manager Frank Lampard believes it will take far fewer points to land the title this season.
Manchester City broke the 100- point barrier in 2018 before retaining their crown with 98 the next year.
Liverpool were champions with a haul of 99 last term.
But Lampard says all the challengers are set to drop more unexpected points in an unpredictable campaign.
“I think the points will be less and I think we have to try to make sure we maintain our levels,” he explained. “That’s just where we’re at this season.
“You’ve seen the results, we felt it first hand at the weekend at Everton. Watching the games on Sunday, you saw that all over the place. The league is getting tighter for whatever reason.
“Teams are strengthening, they are well organised.
WOLVES
Certainly I felt that our preparation into the season was slightly different, so we see ourselves as a bit of a work in progress.
“We feel we’ve already lost some points that we maybe shouldn’t have done.”
Chelsea’s 1- 0 defeat at Everton ended a 14- game unbeaten run. And Lampard says his side may lack a few older heads who have a record of success.
“I’m not talking down my squad by saying that,” he added. “I look around and see strong squads that have been winning things over the past few years that are very stable – and we’ve got some new players.”
