‘ Massive’ tribute to be staged for Babs

- By Mark Jefferies

THOUSANDS will be invited to a “massive” tribute to Barbara Windsor, says her friend Christopher Biggins.

The panto star is among the handful of mourners at her funeral next month because of Covid limits. But he expects a big celebration of her life later in 2021.

EastEnders and Carry On star Dame Barbara died this month aged 83 after living with Alzheimer’s for years.

Biggins said on ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “[ The funeral will] be very difficult for all of us, especially [ her husband] Scott. But it’s good to say goodbye properly.

“Next year, or sometime in the future, there will be... thousands of people invited to a memorial service for Barbara, which will be wonderful.” He recently said he will address her funeral, with EastEnders actors Ross Kemp and Anna Karen.

Cancelled

Biggins said: “I’m very honoured because you can only have 30 people at the funeral.

“Anna Karen is speaking about her early life, I’m speaking about the middle part... and Ross [ Kemp] from EastEnders is talking about that part of her life. It will be very, very sad. I wish there was a way that we could record it so people can watch it. It’s going to be a terrible day but we’re all there for [ Scott] and for her. She was very special.”

Biggins, 72, also called the decision to halt pantomimes in virus- hit London “disgusting”. He was to star in Jack And The Beanstalk at Dartford’s Orchard Theatre. He said: “So many pantomimes have been cancelled this year, including mine. I was going to Dartford. All the theatres have been safe. It has been very tragic.”
