Holloway hits road

-

IAN HOLLOWAY dramatically resigned as Grimsby boss... on Twitter.

The 57- year- old, who took charge a year ago, posted a series of messages on social media announcing his departure.

Holloway claimed he quit because of the behaviour of the potential new owners, having been told by majority shareholder John Fenty of his intention to sell his stake in the League Two side.

“It is time for a fresh start across the board for this great club,” Holloway wrote in a message to supporters. “I intend to be fully honest with you. Contact was made by the new owners to me on several occasions before the takeover, which I felt was inappropriate, and told them as such. This is the key factor in my decision.

“Why? The relationship between the incoming new owners, board and manager is so so important. It needs to be strong for a club to succeed, and we got off on the wrong footing.

“That relationship will be strained from the off, which is bad for the club.”

BLACKBURN midfielder Bradley Dack has signed a new long- term deal.

The 26- year- old’s contract runs to 2023, with an option for a further 12 months.

He has 46 goals in 114 games since arriving from Gillingham in 2017 and, in his first season, helped win promotion from League One.

Dack has spent the past year recovering from a knee injury and said:“The club stuck by me, so I felt like I owed them a little. As long as the deal was right for both parties then I was happy to sign.”
