Christmas was floody hell, says TV’s Kate

- By Alex Green

KATE Garraway yesterday revealed she’d had a “calamitous” Christmas as her husband Derek Draper spent his ninth month in hospital with Covid- 19.

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate, 55, said her home was flooded because of burst pipes, and she was almost left without food after failing to secure an online grocery delivery slot.

In an Instagram post, she went on to thank the workmen who helped her to “bucket out” the water as well as TV pal Emma Willis who organised a Marks & Spencer food package.

Kate told her 986,000 followers: “Well here we are folks – new year’s eve – the last day of a year few will be sorry to see the back of.

“Getting through Christmas has been a challenge hasn’t it with all the emotions it stirs in our strange world & nowhere really to put them – except in hope.

“And there is still so much real hope out there. Not just in the extraordinary healthcare workers & researchers who definitely hold a bright light for the future. But in all the little kindnesses.”

She then wrote: “We had a calamitous few days in the run- up to Christmas – but we got through thanks to some wonderful people.

“The guys from @ bondconstruction who literally got on their hands & knees with me to bucket out water after we had 2 pipe leaks that flooded our home.”

She also thanked Emma and several companies for helping, before concluding: “Spreading the love is what will give us all a truly happy new year.”

Two months ago Kate revealed that Derek, 53 – the father of her two children – was able to breathe without a ventilator. He has been in hospital since March.
