Street has a dig over work chaos

FED-UP families saw their street dug up and resurfaced three times in six days.

South East Water repaired a pipe and made good the road on January 19. But then council workers arrived the next day for planned resurfacing.

At 6am the workers packed up only for the water firm to return two hours later to fix another leak and dig the road once more.

Angry residents said they lost sleep with working taking place on Friday and Saturday nights into Sunday morning.

Dave Savory, who runs a pub in Maidstone, Kent, said: “The noise was as if all hell started up. It was impossible to get a wink of sleep.”
