Roll out the red, white and blue carpet for the EU
THE GOVERNMENT is wrong not to give the European Union’s envoy to London full ambassadorial status, including security protection. If, as I believe, the EU is a superstate intent on extending its powers, then the more the British Government does to illustrate that fact the better.
We ought to have two resplendently-uniformed trumpeters to follow the EU ambassador around, who produce loud fanfares whenever His Excellency graces us with his presence.
Traffic ought to be halted for the Ambassador’s Rolls-Royce, complete with its motorcycle outriders, just in case any of us forget that the EU is a great power, one that Britain was lucky to escape from last year.
For the Government to claim that the EU ambassador does not represent a state undermines what we Brexiteers have been warning for years.
So roll out the red carpet for him (but don’t give him our vaccines, which we ordered three months before Brussels got round to thinking about it).
PRITI PATEL is right when she criticises social influencers and media stars for “showing off in sunny parts of the world”. She has been told by our Border Force that, “Even at St Pancras people have been turning up with their skis”.
As well as criticising Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry and various social influencers for spending their lockdowns in Dubai, however, we should also be applauding those patriotic celebrities such as Liz Hurley for staying in Britain and denouncing those who have left.
Hurley’s recent remarks show how her heart is in the right place in this emergency, and why she is better value than a dozen of these ghastly social media influencers put together.
Her latest photo in the snow has greatly added to the jollity of the nation in hard times.
