Charity superhero Carmela honoured
A GIRL aged six born with a rare genetic condition has been recognised by the Prime Minister with a top award after raising £50,000 for charity.
Carmela Chillery-Watson’s muscles get weaker with every step she takes and sufferers rarely live until 20.
She and her family, from Devizes,Wilts, vowed to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK to help vital research into treatments. Next week in a virtual ceremony she will be presented with a Points Of Light award with her local MP Danny Kruger.The scheme was set up by former PM David Cameron to recognise inspiring volunteers.
Carmela said: “This is awesome news. I can’t believe it, it’s so amazing.” In 2019, she embarked on a walking challenge dressed as Wonder Woman, completing the equivalent of a marathon every day while walking 186 miles in total on crutches.
