MAGICAL RESULTS FROM HARRY POTTER PUBLISHER

-

BOOK sales have soared during the pandemic. More than 200 million were snapped up in the UK last year – for the first time since 2012.

Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury confirmed the industry boom as it revealed bumper annual results.

Sales to the end of February are expected to exceed the near-£162million forecast, with profits “well ahead” of the £12m pencilled in.

As well as JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books, other big sellers from Bloomsbury include Eat Better Forever by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Joe Biden: American Dreamer by Evan Osnos. Academic books have also sold well, helped by children having to home-school.

Bloomsbury said: “This excellent performance during the pandemic is testament to the resilience, initiative and determination of our staff, authors, illustrators, customers, distributors and suppliers, together with the strength of our publishing strategy, supported by our strong financial position.”
