TRIPLE Grand Nationalwinning trainer Gordon Elliott labelled the stewards ‘barbaric’ after his runner, Folcano, was not awarded the race when hampered at Navan yesterday.
Folcano, the mount of Jack Kennedy, was taken off a straight course when beaten a nose by Brazos, partnered by Kevin Broader, in the maiden hurdle.
“It’s a disappointment, listen, I don’t think it was Jack’s finest ride,” said Elliott. “The horse got a bump and was taken across the track and got beat a nose.
“I think the consistency of the stewards in Ireland at the moment is barbaric. There’s two sides of the coin, as in the past I thought we’d have a race taken away but we didn’t.
“To get a race in a stewards’ inquiry, you have to literally put them across the rails.”
