‘Written-off’ Pep mocks pundits
PEP GUARDIOLA says Chris Wilder and him have something in common – even though one of them is top of the Premier League and the other is bottom. Today’s clash at the Etihad could be dubbed ‘The WrittenOff’ derby.
City were 11th after losing 2-0 at Tottenham in November but are now favourites for the Premier League title. Sheffield United are rooted to the bottom but two wins in three league games have given 3PM them a small hope of a miracle escape.
After watching Wilder’s Blades stun Manchester United 2-1 on Wednesday, Guardiola insisted relegation was by no means a certainty for them.
He also had a dig at pundits who have swiftly changed their view on City. Asked to comment on being labelled favourites, Guardiola, left, suggested with his hand such words went in one ear and out the other. “We react to them the same way as one month ago when we had no chance,” said the City boss.
“One month ago we were not even in Champions League qualification. You have good and bad moments but we are going to drop points. When we do we must recover well and analyse why.”
On the Blades, he said: “The reason they are still alive is that they are together for a long time and believe in each other.”
