Rishi takes pressure in his stride

- By Sam Lister

RISHI Sunak relaxes during a day out with his family yesterday as he takes a break from tackling the mounting cost of the pandemic.

The Chancellor, 40, was spotted in central London with his wife Akshata Murthy, 41, and two children.

He is reportedly looking at moving capital gains tax, paid on shares and sales of assets, into line with income tax.

Corporation tax, which was steadily reduced in recent years, is tipped to increase from 19 to 24 per cent.

The Tories pledged not to increase VAT, national insurance or inheritance tax at the last general election in 2019.

It comes as the TaxPayers’ Alliance found the average tax burden has reached a 70-year high.

It said taxation under Boris Johnson is likely to be higher than it has been under almost every other post-war prime minister.
