Who’ll be Billy’s groom in first Corrie male wedding?

- By Nicola Methven

CORONATION Street bosses are lining up the first male wedding in the show’s 60-year history – but one of the grooms remains a mystery.

Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel Brocklebank, will definitely be one of the men to get hitched.

But it is being kept under wraps who he will marry – either current partner Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) or his ex-love Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

Over the coming months, Paul and Todd look set to become embroiled in a tug of love over Billy, as devious Todd is determined to split up the Weatherfield vicar from his love rival. Three previous attempts at a gay wedding on the ITV soap have all ended in failure.

Actor Daniel, 41, said: “From my perspective, I would love to be part of Corrie’s first male gay wedding.

“None of the others have followed through – we’ve attempted three. Two were lesbian weddings and neither happened – the roof collapsed on one and there was a jilting at the other.

Amazing

“It would be lovely, as a gay man myself, to be part of the first gay wedding on Corrie that actually happens. That would be amazing.”

In 2010, it was reported that Corrie’s Sean Tully would marry his boyfriend Marcus Dent. But the pair split before making it down the aisle. The following year, Sophie Webster and Sian Powers did get as far as donning matching dresses for their wedding ceremony.

But, when it came to the Sophie got cold feet and poor Sian.

Then, in 2019, Rana Habeeb and Kate Connor were due to get hitched, but on their big day, a factory roof fell on Rana, killing her.

Daniel hinted the prospect of marriage might see Billy quit the church – which he has already done twice in the six years he’s been on the show.

He said: “Once he quit for Todd. Now that he’s archdeacon I think it would be even harder for him to walk out.” vows, jilted
