Counting the cost of paperless pay slips

- By Mark Solomons

PAPERLESS technology leaves millions without a clue how much they are paid, or what their bills are, research reveals.

Nearly four in 10 say they do not know their exact monthly salary or the deductions as they never receive a payslip.

And many are unaware of what they pay in standing orders, subscriptions and direct debits from their bank account – or even their last card payment.

Technology also means many no longer remember online passwords and instead rely on the autofill function, the survey of 1,000 adults by Ocean Finance said.

Sarah Neate, of Ocean Finance, said: “While the rise in tech has made us more reliant on it than ever, our research has found this is affecting our ability to remember and recite our own important financial details.

“This is staggering to see, especially in a time where so many Britons are suffering from financial hardship.”
