STEEL EXPORTERS ‘FACE 25% TARIFFS’
MINISTERS are being urged to renegotiate “very damaging” quotas on UK steel exports with the EU.
UK Steel, which represents manufacturers, said postBrexit export quotas for some products would “likely” run out in the first quarter of this year, leaving further exports subject to a 25 per cent tariff.
Stephen Kinnock, Welsh
Labour MP for Aberavon, whose constituency includes the Port Talbot steelworks, said: “The steel industry is going to be subjected to 25 per cent tariffs on every ton of steel that we export to the EU above a certain quota.
“What’s even worse is steel going from Britain to Northern Ireland will be included in the calculation of that quota.
