Spurs in ‘sad’ state

- By James Nursey

JOSE MOURINHO admitted Tottenham have “problems” after their lame loss at Brighton. “We didn’t start well and after conceding the goal nothing improved,” said the Spurs boss after being beaten by a strike from Leandro Trossard. “My feeling was the team was a bit sad. Sooner or later we are going to get over these problems. Now we are

in a difficult moment with results, injuries and self-esteem.”

A lacklustre display condemned Mourinho’s side to successive Premier League defeats in four days.

Sixth-placed Spurs have won twice in nine games to lie 11 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho was missing Harry Kane and the team looked devoid of ideas as deputy Gareth Bale flopped and was hauled off on the hour. “The performance was not very good,” said the Spurs boss.

“But a victory doesn’t put me in paradise and a defeat doesn’t put me in hell.”

Brighton manager Graham Potter said: “I thought from the start of the game we were brave, aggressive and scored a really nice goal.

“I am delighted for the points but we had to fight for them.”
