Sure you’re Russ Crowe, not Captain Birdseye?

- By Cyril Dixon By Jack Evans

RUSSELL Crowe floated a yachtswoman’s boat with a birthday message as she struggled in high seas.

But round-the-world sailor Pip Hare did not recognise the Gladiator star at first... because of his “Captain Birdseye” beard.

Pip, who had been feeling glum as her 47th birthday approached, said: “I didn’t know who it was but the minute he spoke I was like ‘Oh my god it’s Russell Crowe!’

Rubble trouble...parts of the wall lie smashed in the gardens below

FOUR houses are crushed by bricks and earth after a 70ft-long wall from the street above smashes down on to their homes.

But the families in the wrecked properties managed to flee without suffering any harm.

The damage was done mainly to their back gardens and rear of their homes.

It is thought heavy rain caused the soil to shift.

Terry Oakley, 57, who has lived in the street in Sneinton, Nottingham, with his wife Lynn for 30 years, said: “We heard a huge bang and the house moved.

We thought, ‘What was that?’ The wall that fell was built 15 years ago. It’s the most shocking thing to have happened here.”

The landslip happened at 1am on Wednesday and the stricken residents were looked after by neighbours until the morning.

Nottingham City Council said it had sent engineers to evaluate the damage.

A spokesman added: “We have made arrangements for temporary accommodation for those residents who need it.”
