DADDY LONG LEGS barntheatre.org.uk

This musical is based on the classic novel by Jean Webster that inspired the 1955 film starring Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron.

Set in turn-of-the-century New England, it is the story of orphan Jerusha Abbott and the mysterious benefactor who agrees to send her to college.

In her letters, Jerusha addresses her unknown patron as ‘Daddy Long Legs’ after seeing his elongated shadow against a wall. Starring Ryan Bennett (Jersey Boys) as Daddy Long Legs and Rebecca JayneDavies (Half A Sixpence) as Jerusha, this Built By Barn production ran at the Barn Theatre in 2019 and marked the first time a UK theatre had produced the award-winning musical.

It is available online from February 12-21 and tickets cost £12.

The world premiere of

Lorien Haynes’ romantic comedy stars Sian Clifford (Fleabag) and Nikesh Patel (Artemis Fowl) as two friends attempting to come to terms with the death of a woman they loved.

Structured around the five stages of grief – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance – it oscillates between comedy and despair. The friends joke, squabble in an Ikea car park (who doesn’t?) and cling to each other for comfort in a hotel bedroom.

A truthful and honest examination of the conflicting emotions that can affect all of us following the loss of a loved one, it throbs with emotion and is very timely.

Created more than two decades ago to fill arenas and large venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, it has a wide-screen breadth like few others.

Displaying all the magic of the classic ballet, from the ballerinas in white tutus moving in breathtaking unison, to the captivating romance between Prince Siegfried and the Swan Queen Odette, this production was recorded at the Liverpool Empire in 2018 and stars Isaac Hernández as Siegfried and Jurgita Dronina as Odette/ Odile. Olivier Award-winning actress Janie Dee (Carousel) stars in a brand-new digital production of Terence Rattigan’s infrequently performed one-woman play.

It is the story of Rosemary, who opens her heart at midnight to reveal the dark secret she has been hiding.

Rattigan’s heartbreaking psychological drama was originally written for television in 1968 but was most recently performed on stage in 2015 with Zoe Wanamaker.

The popular and versatile Dee will bring a fresh dimension to Rattigan’s penetrating study of a woman unburdening herself alone at night.

Tickets are priced at £11 and are available for just eight performances between February 16-21.
