Moyes sees red at Soucek dismissal

-

WEST HAM are keen to have Tomas Soucek’s red card overturned before they face Manchester United in the FA Cup tomorrow.

Soucek, below, was sent off in added time at Fulham after jostling with Aleksandar Mitrovic and could also miss two Premier League games.

David Moyes called referee Mike Dean’s decision embarrassing.

TheWest Ham manager said: “If Tomas was missing for any game it would be a blow.”

Gary Lineker tweeted of Dean’s decision: “Can’t find a soul on here that thinks that’s a red card. How can both [VAR] Lee Mason and Mike Dean both see it as a red? Soucek must get that overturned.”

Soucek has scored nine times from midfield this season.

He tweeted: “I spoke with Mitrovic and he said our duel was fair, I thank him for that.

“Unfortunately, the referee had a different opinion. Anyone who

knows me knows I’d never mean harm to another player.”

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp said: “Soucek is trying to get his arm out of the way and by accident catches Mitrovic. I’d like to see Dean be the big man and say, ‘I’ve made a huge mistake.’”

Dean came under fire for sending off Southampton’s Jan Bednarek at Old Trafford on Tuesday – a decision overturned on appeal.

These are tough times for Fulham, but in Ruben Loftus-Cheek they may have a glimmer of light. The on-loan midfielder from Chelsea is starting to show the surging runs, quick feet and intelligence that made him an England World Cup star in 2018.

But Fulham, eight points adrift after drawing a game they badly needed to win, will need him and a lot more to survive.
