Biggar is in with a shout for the Welsh

- By Neil Squires

WALES will attempt to walk the walk at Murrayfield today knowing that with motor-mouth stand-off Dan Biggar on board they can certainly talk the talk.

The absence of crowds at this season’s Six Nations has revealed who are the championship’s foghorns and round one showed Biggar, right, can mix it with the loudest. His voice could be heard cannoning off the empty rows of seats at the Principality Stadium, organising, exhorting and occasionally sledging his own team-mates.

With a new midfield partnership of Nick Tompkins and Owen Watkin to shepherd today against Scotland, Biggar’s direction will be invaluable and similar to that of England captain Owen Farrell. “They are both the same. They don’t stop talking. They give me earache. It’s why they are where they are – because they just don’t stop,” said Tompkins, who played with Farrell at Saracens.

“Faz is pretty demanding, pretty loud and Dan is the same, maybe in a different way, but Jeez they both like to scream. It gets me pumped, it gets me into the game. It’s brilliant. We need it.” The Scots are expecting Biggar to target wing Darcy Graham with his accurate cross-kicks as Wales attempt to unpick the defence that shut out England last week.

Wales’s preparation has been hampered by a short turnaround from their win over Ireland and a raft of injuries but Tompkins said: “Hopefully we can ride the momentum from the Ireland game going into this match against a side with a lot of motivation.

“They’re riding really high after the England win so it’s going to be a big one.”

Scotland captain Stuart Hogg said: “No matter how good we were last week we still believe we can be better.”
