New e-bike for oldest paperboy

- By Megan Baynes

PAPERBOY George Bailey, 80, has put his retirement on hold after he was given an electric bike – and now says he may go till he’s 90.

He announced he would probably quit his 2.5-mile round after his milestone birthday.

But Raleigh and Evans Cycles stepped in and sent him a Raleigh Motus Cross Bar e-bike.

Grateful George, who gets the news to the people of Headcorn, Kent, said the swish wheels have given him a “new lease of life”. He added: “I’m truly thrilled. I might still be doing this when I’m 90.”

PLUCKY 10-year-old Charlie Clayton is raising money for charity as he battles cancer.

Charlie has a brain tumour and wants to help fund research to find a cure for the disease.

And inspired by the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, he is on a walking challenge to raise money.

Charlie was diagnosed with craniopharyngiomas last year – a tumour located at the bottom of the brain and above the pituitary gland, which controls many vital functions.

But the determined schoolboy, who has a twin sister, Meghan, has already smashed his target of raising £300 by walking 10,000 steps a day until the end of the month.

So far he has raised £905 for the charity Brain Tumour Research.

Charlie’s mum, Stacy, is a teaching assistant and completing the challenge alongside her son.

She and Charlie’s father Chris, 39, first became worried when their boy started having headaches.

An MRI scan revealed a “mass” in Charlie’s brain.

Stacy said: “Charlie had a 1in by 1in tumour, very close to areas controlling his eyes and other functions, so we were told the likelihood was they wouldn’t be able to remove all of the tumour.”

Charlie, from Worthing in West Sussex, underwent proton beam therapy at a unit in Manchester last October to help shrink the tumour further.

And while he still has headaches, doctors hope they will reduce over time.

Charlie Allsebrook, at Brain Tumour Research, said: “We wish Charlie all the best and are really grateful to him and Stacy for taking part in our 10,000 steps challenge.”
