TITLE LOOKS VAR GONE

Maguire says ‘decisions going against us’ as United fall seven points behind

- By Gideon Brooks and Andy Dunn

HARRY MAGUIRE claimed VAR is going against Manchester United’s faltering title challenge.

United are now seven points behind Manchester City, who have a game in hand, after the draw at the Hawthorns. The defender thought he had won a penalty but referee Craig Pawson reversed his initial decision after VAR intervened. And Maguire fumed: “We were so certain it was a penalty. I’m

not sure why they needed to send him to a monitor.

“The clip was minimal but it was a penalty. It seems like the decisions are going against us.”

United’s skipper believes comments about his side winning penalties earlier in the season – both Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made reference to their record – have counted against them.

Maguire said: “Ever since people from other teams spoke about us we’ve had absolutely nothing from the referee or VAR. We’ve got to make sure we’re not leaving the game in the hands of the referee or VAR.”

But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted United will not throw in the towel.

He said: “We won’t let Manchester City run away with it – we’re playing them soon. We are not going to settle for second.

“It’s disappointing, of course, we’ve come away with two points less than we wanted to. The attitude is right and I cannot fault it at all. It is about the quality.” West Brom’s Mbaye Diagne struck in only the second minute but Bruno Fernandes levelled. “We had enough chances to make it three points,” said West Brom manager Allardyce, below. “The sad thing for me is Mbaye Diagne could have had a hat-trick. That would have been a great thing for him.

“I’m pleased with the overall performance and tactics of the team.

“They didn’t let their heads down when United scored with their only shot on target in the first half.”

Pressure has ramped up on Instagram to get tough with racist users after Anthony Martial was again subjected to vile abuse.

It is the second time in three weeks the United striker has suffered on the platform.

Last night, Instagram’s parent company Facebook insisted it had removed offensive posts after their publication.
